- Went over to Old School Drummers Reading List and it looks like there are only about three people left (four, five...). I've certainly not been much of a contributor, but OTOH I've continued to be a daily user of Drummer and Electric Drummer, I'm just not much of a blogger. But I like reading there, and then for the last week I've been totally wrapped up in Feedland, sorting, categorizing, pruning, collecting. Paradise for dopamine. I've got a tab for Likes (mine) and Likes (everybody else's). Tangentially I'm seeing Andy Sylvester's Zettelkasten experiment, which looks on the surface to be very similar to my "Evernote" "Building a Second Brain" use of Drummer. Wonder about linking up... But that's a premature wondering, since I haven't really even looked closely at it yet...#
I don't really think I mean "link up," more something like I want to figure out how to publish in a "News Product" fashion the list of links and notes I collect each day. I guess it's the "LinkBlog" tab I see in people's blogs, but haven't figured out how to implement. Still lagging in mastering Drummer. (Still haven't tackled the header picture..." It's something I'm liking about Feedland: I feel I already know how to use it...
#
Solved an E/D problem yesterday, by deleting the names of uncloseable tabs from the prefs.json file. Shouldn't be necessary but it worked.
#
I don't think it'll be as easy with Drummer.
#
That was a little alarming: I clicked the little arrow at the bottom of an Old School Drummers Reading List item and suddenly I'd tweeted it. I was just clicking: usually a safe way to experiment...

- I'm having a huge number of "threat detected" notifications from Sophos, all pointing to Microsoft mail container folders. I go to the folder indicated and it's empty, so I guess Sophos is removing the files (I haven't ever paid a cent to Sophos), but before this week I never got these notifications. Nor am I running Microsoft software at the moment (I thought). Well, that's not true: I'm running OneDrive syncing software, so these mail threats are coming from my account on the Windows machine at work, I suppose. Ugh.#
Some outline nodes have the little "page" icon at the left, which results from clicking the "plus" button, and some have the little triangle icon, which results from hitting the Return key. Both are type:outline. What (hidden?) attribute tells the node which icon to use?
#
In the absence of a working "Links" tab, I will once again irresponsibly hazard the Mass Dump Experiment:

- JonKnowsNothing • January 7, 2022 2:09 PM @Curious, @Ted, @All re: Isn’t this a bit like stealing electricity from others? Short Answer: YES fwiw: In cold California, the California Public Utilities Commission has granted a new tiered pricing system for PG&E which provides electricity to most of the state north of Los Angeles (San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Sacramento …) This new tiered system is divided into 3 levels but really offers only 2. Level 1: The current method. Tiered pricing based on total quantity used. Level 2: Time of Use A: You pay more for electricity between 4pm-9pm Level 3: Time of Use B: You pay more for electricity between 5pm-8pm If you do nothing you get Auto Opt-In to Level 2 or Level 3. If you want to stay on Level 1 you have to call them. (1) A few things to note about the new system: The time of peak use is when people are at home and need heat, cooling, lights and use electrical appliances (microwaves, ovens, ranges) and use more electronic stuff (TVs, PCs, charging phones) and of course charging the car. The car charger may have a timer, but if you need 12 hours of charge (110v) and need to leave for work at 4am (or earlier), delayed charging won’t help and the cost of charging your car will rise significantly. People who are Stay-At-Home, Sheltering-from-Omicron, or otherwise Not-Out-of-the-House-All-Day get all the maximum bills. Unless they shut off the electricity completely. The price does not go down. Per the Price-Comparison PG&E provided to me based on my current+historical usage, I will pay @150-$200 MORE per year under the new plans. One culprit: well known in electrical seepage are the converters you plug in the wall and leave them plugged in (aka trickle chargers, Vampire Boxes). People used to put them on power strips that had an On/Off toggle. There are way too many now to fit on power strips. The advent of recharging Li-ion long term battery powered items (vacuum sticks, power tools, leaf blowers(2)) has increased the number of Vampire Boxes in use. A partial reason given for the new pricing is to force homeowners, especially those with CA Subsidized Solar Roof Panels (now a mandatory requirement for new housing) to buy into Solar Charge House Battery. These are well known for Off-Grid Homes. The idea being you will spend $$ to buy a house battery that will kick in, like a generator, when PG&E brown outs or black outs your neighborhood. Those familiar with Off-Grid Battery Systems will know that they are not going to power the new mega size 3,300sqft $800,000USD housing being constructed. They are also not going to power anything for very long when PG&E power lines get burned down (electrical arcing) or blown down (hurricane speed wind storms). Even underground power lines are no guarantee of continuous electrical service. Summary: Bitcoin miners steal electricity. Installing them with Faux Opt-Outs is stealing and deceptive business practices. Installing bitcoin miners using extension cords plugged into your neighbor’s exterior electrical sockets, may be questionable. (3)(4) === 1) Call In ends 01/18/2022 Thank you for calling PG&E. Your call is very important to us. All operators are busy with other clients. Please stay on the line and your call will be answered in order received. Your wait time is: ETERNITY 2) Some cities in CA have now banned gas powered leaf blower. Only electric or battery powered leaf blowers allowed. 3) George Lopez, the American comedian and actor, had a very funny routine about building an extension on to his home. A great review of practical engineering. 4) There have been reports of large scale bitcoin mining operations in “unoccupied” warehouses that pirated the electricity from neighboring businesses.#

#
I like collecting articles for a personal magazine, and do it in a few ways:
#
Add things to Instapaper
#
Add things to Drummer with the bookmarklet
#
Star things in FeedWrangler and they go into a feed that I collect in NetNewsWire
#
Star things in NetNewsWire and they go into a list called Starred. This isn't exportable as a feed, but it can be "shared" to Mail.app, where it creates a list of all the items. This can then be pasted into Drummer for rearranging.
#
My new favorite place to have things end up is in Drummer, because I can organize them. Headings, categories, catalogs, projects, workflows. Tiago Forte's Projects, Areas, Resources, Archives.
#
The missing piece is this: the list I can paste in from NetNewsWire contains the top posts weeded from all the other sources, but it comes in the form of unclickable HTML addresses, line by line. What I'd love to get some help with is a script to turn each line into a Drummer clickable link, with the URL inserted into the URL attribute of the node. I can do it manually, but it's begging to be automated. Sadly, I don't know how to write such a script -- i fact, I haven't even got it clear in my head where such a script would live and how it would be invoked. A lot of ignorance going on.
#
A new issue with Drummer, which has me worried. I noticed my "Scratchpad" tab was missing, so I reopened it from the file menu. It appeared, but in an odd placement off on the right, making a second row for itself, an then it magically renamed itself to "Notes," and yep, suddenly I had two Notes tabs, but no Scratchpad. I can replicate this just by quitting Safari and going through the same steps. The "Empty cache" command from the "Develop" menu, followed by a restart didn't solve the problem either.
#
For the forseeable it appears this will be a blog on the topic of learning Drummer as a sometimes heralded "poet", in the land of the friendly Plumbers.
#
Forming a strategy for making entries on the Drummer
River Reading List: assemble the posts to make sure the one you want is at the top, don't make it too long, and then add posts as you like below, but they won't get prominence.
#
There's some frequency of updating, or period during which all new postings are put under the first of the day (daily?)
#
Trial and error is not that good a look now, is it?
#
Testing "collapse" attribute
#
Well, "collapse" worked, except it wouldn't uncollapse for the reader...
#
Since the Awesome Drummers discussion area hasn't really kicked off yet (I mean to jump in, but feel a need to assemble a sensible contribution in order to justify it), and the Support GitHub is a little slow-moving (or I haven't stumbled on the more active part lately), it's almost like this River could become a kind of discussion thread. Hmm. Probably another bastardization...
#
I'm liking DayNotes's idea of an archive document, since I'm paying a lot of attention to the SAVED times in the upper right of my documents, and noticing them getting longer and longer.
#
Decided to just post my Notes tab and see what happens:
