Hilariously the person there said he doesn't speak English.#
So Barb who doesn't really speak Mandarin switched to her rudimentary Mandarin she learned during a high school Mandarin camp in Taiwan, the so called "Loveboat" :-)#
Back in 2001 when I worked in Richmond and ate at a lot of Chinese restaurants it was the reverse. Most folks at Chinese restaurants spoke Cantonese not Mandarin!#
Things certainly have changed. (I knew this intellectually but never have experienced this linguistic shift in Richmond!). #
I have no skin in this linguistic "game" :-) Other than loving all food especially Chinese food and being super interested in all human languages.#
