- I read a lot, mostly the Internet and often books. All my reading flows through Readwise.io and ends up in two repositories, Evernote and Roam Research. Evernote is where I store information and I think of it as a form of backup, Roam is where I work with information. I find what I read by reviewing a list of RSS feeds gathered for me by FeedLand. When I see an item in a feed, I right-click the item title and select the Readwise Reader menu item to read later. #
- When I read an article in Readwise Reader I highlight and add notes to portions of the article that I find interesting, and those are what ultimately end up in Roam. Some times while I am reading I decided I want to write a blog post, and that is when I wish that Reader (or whichever reader app I am using) provided a way for me write. What I imagine is something like this:#
- 1. I click Write a blog post item and see a split screen with the article in one and an editing / input box on the other.#
- 2. The title and URL of the article I am reading is automatically populated in the writing side.#
- 3. If I want to quote a portion of the article, I could select, drag, and drop the portion in to the writing side.#
- 4. The writing window would have a Publish button, ideally I would be presented options to select to where I want to publish the item: micro.blog, WordPress, Mastodon, etc.. could all be items. #
- Many years ago Dave Winer wrote Radio Userland that as I recall provided something like what I describe above. FeedLand provides some of what I describe by providing a button to send the article title and link to Radio3, which is put in an input box where I can then enter text, but Radio3 publishes to the Radio3 linkblog and RSS feed. We could monitor the Radio3 feed and then publish to some other platforms like WordPress using an IFTTT applet like I do with cross posting from micro.blog to WordPress, but that process is not selective nor does it have the ability to post to micro.blog.#
