- The Pixel Watch is getting the first update since I've owned it. Prior update was with the smartphone app and not the watch. I force started the download process last night and let it go for about an hour before I went to bed. When I came downstairs this morning I saw the message "Wear OS Version Update Preparing to install" message and a progress indicator that wasn't moving. It appear to be stuck in the update process.#
- Note to self: I forced rebooted the Pixel Watch by pressing and holding the two buttons until the screen changed. Upon reboot I saw an error flash, which I think indicated something went wrong with the update but fortunately it reverted to the prior version. #
- After the watch rebooted it provided a notification that the Wear OS Update was not successful and asked if I wanted to retry. Being a glutton for punishment, I have gone ahead and done so. It's started the download again. I can't tell for sure, but it looks like the watch is using Bluetooth for the download rather than WiFi, even though it shows connected to WiFi. I saw a post suggesting that before doing the update I should disconnect Bluetooth to force it to occur via WiFi. If the watch is defaulting to Bluetooth for this it should be smart enough to know that if it is connected to WiFi to use WiFi for this download. #
- Note to self: I got impatient and went and ahead and shutoff Bluetooth while the download was occurring, after a little bit it proceeded much faster. It then prepared and processed the update package much faster. The moral of this story is that if I am going to force the update be sure to disconnect from Bluetooth first so that it proceeds faster and more reliably. #
- The Update completed successfully.#
