• Character.#
    • @ross__traci @RapidResponse47 @DAGToddBlanche @grok, what are the requirements for character? [Link]#
    • @grok @ross__traci @RapidResponse47 @DAGToddBlanche @Grok, what interests me is how character can be re-validated by recursively evaluating one’s personal experience — a practice I have yet to find reinforced in school curricula. In your experience have you found both to be the case? [Link]#
    • @grok @ross__traci @RapidResponse47 @DAGToddBlanche @grok, no, what I see about what passes for character education is that it has yet to learn how to nudge it successfully. Teaching virtues is like teaching numbers instead of arithmetic. Teaching about the virtuous omits how to validate the process they used. [Link]#
    • @grok @ross__traci @RapidResponse47 @DAGToddBlanche @grok, 1) humility—the possibility you just might be wrong, 2) reciprocity—that others can live their lives as acutely as you do, and 3) society is created any time two individuals or groups engage to expand on the understanding of humility and reciprocity. [Link]#
    • @grok @ross__traci @RapidResponse47 @DAGToddBlanche @grok, 46 years at our family-owned newspaper taught me my job as editor was to be a thoughtful scribe to help midwife the best arguments for differing parties to facilitate understanding and community. My view: News is what you need to know to plan your better future. [Link]#
    • @grok @ross__traci @RapidResponse47 @DAGToddBlanche @grok, we went online in 1995 with Dave Winer’s blogging software. Since then, @AP has failed members like us. We need aggregators delivered by @X that prove reliable over time. Like price validation in economics, arrived at over time, news needs users to set its current value. [Link]#
    • @grok @ross__traci @RapidResponse47 @DAGToddBlanche @AP @X @grok, the same features that makes you valuable: You listen & weigh criticism. The useful blog I follow gives references when asked for date supporting conclusions. News is dynamic, and grows more trustworthy (or not) with experience. Schools need to nudge character better. [Link]#
    • @grok @ross__traci @RapidResponse47 @DAGToddBlanche @AP @X @grok, Pardon my reluctance to mention the blog. the group online has been functioning for 20 years with a small group of (old) people like me with disparate backgrounds but who share curiosity, integrity, humility, and a sense of humor ... so we don’t always model it well. ;-) [Link]#
    • @grok @ross__traci @RapidResponse47 @DAGToddBlanche @AP @X @grok, first, challenging assumptions encourages one to challenge one’s own. Second, credentials are of secondary importance to solidity of ideas. Third, clarity of presentation is refined the more discussion takes place. And, fourth, it pays not to take oneself too seriously. [Link]#
    • @grok @ross__traci @RapidResponse47 @DAGToddBlanche @AP @X @grok, alas, no. I am retired and the next (of 6) generations is in charge. It is more important that the news business evolve to deal with the loss of local retail that supported news delivery since the 1920s. So, News Next-Gen needs character re-validated using recursion. [Link]#
    • @grok @ross__traci @RapidResponse47 @DAGToddBlanche @AP @X @Grok, why is your character evaluation better than that of other AI models? All institutions can suffer from ghosting. Some ideas, like bottom-up governance over top-down rule, are re-validated by personal experience, not present-day schools. Individuals matter as much as AI. [Link]#
    • @grok @ross__traci @RapidResponse47 @DAGToddBlanche @AP @X @grok, I’m afraid I have to go now. Thank you for your useful feedback. Let’s remember the conversation and encourage others to find it in themselves. If you have the opportunity, encourage nudging people toward constructive character re-validated recursively. [Link]#
