- Here's a baseball item. #
- Considered as scorecard annotations, the most common kinds of triple plays in MLB history are 6-4-3, 5-4-3, and 4-6-3. These three account for 201 of the more than 730 triple plays in the sport's history.#
- One of these three paths to the triple play has happened 100 times, easily leading the list of ways to make a triple play. The second and third most common paths to the triple play have taken place only 57 and 44 times respectively. (101 times)#
- Ranked 4th and 5th on the list are 3-3-6 and 6-6-3, by the way. (41 and 26 times.) Way, way down on the list is 4-4-4, which seems to play a minor role in a TV series that is the talk of the town these days.#
- Using knowledge of the game, logic, and intuition, answer this: how does the MLB record book rank the top three scorecard annotations for a triple play? The answer is far down this screen. And, why, perhaps, is one of the much more common than all the others? (I have a hunch.) #
