In 1999 the biologist E.O. Wilson wrote a book with the title Consilience - The Unity of Knowledge in which he argued for a multi-disciplinary science. #

Wilson (f. 1929) för att beteckna allt vetandes enhet och kopplingen mellan olika vetenskaper, till exempel mellan sociologi och biologi, neurovetenskap och psykologi, mellan humanistiska, samhällsvetenskapliga, beteendevetenskapliga och politiska aspekter (som i miljöforskningen).#
- Termen har senare kommit att användas även om andra samgåenden som till exempel konciliens mellan konst och vetenskap.#
- Latin: concilium {uttal: kånnkhill´ium} förening, samfund, gemenskap.#
Recently The Consilience Project was founded by David Schmachtenberger, with support of many others. On its website it is written: "The Consilience Project is a publication of the Civilization Research Institute (CRI), a charitable think tank focused on reducing systemic fragility and advancing new forms of governance and coordination. CRI seeks to inform the next era of human collaboration and collective intelligence to ensure human and ecological thriving." #
