The Postman Delivers: My latest pair of retro cycling tights. Tudor Sports, natch. I'm rocking that Max Miller look. Cycling sizing is always odd. These are labelled as a Medium. They are a 28" waist. It's elasticated, and so I can just about slip into them. I've somehow become that classic retro look CTC cyclist. The Rapha Revolution has passed me by. Chapeau!

Album of the Day: PJ Harvey - Rid of Me#
Steve Albini has his fingerprints all over this. I love the quiet / loud change in tempo that runs throughout. There's also a proper band sound, rather than session musicians filling in the gaps. Polly had a complete disregard for fashion and trends of the time. This is most definitely not an early frontrunner to spark the Britpop scene. 50ft Queenie is immense in every sense. The sound captures the ambitions of the lyrics.

It was a morning of toil for Surrey up at Old Trafford. It looked like hard work out in the crease for the 'rrey middle order. A BOWLING DAY, for sure. Or more like the Championship winning hangovers from last week still haven't been shaken off. I love the idea that County cricket is still being played as we start the countdown to Halloween.

A quick read through my feeds and I see that Jim Davidson has been booked to play Charter Hall in Sunny Colch. It's a show all about the rise of woke (whatever that may mean...) and no-platforming. Yes, it would be highly ironic if Davidson himself was no-platformed. But this is an event booked and promoted by the Borough Council's own internal events company. Shit town for pricks, as a pal might observe. No comment from me. Nope.

I had a break at lunch for a run. It was long sleeve running top weather for the first time this season. I also adorned my ridiculous running beanie hat. It's not a fashion statement, but a means to keeping my AirPods in place whilst running. So there.
#
I passed the Sailing Club and saw the lunchtime WivGigs crew preparing Audacity ahead of a launch. The tide was quickly coming into the Muddy Banks a little further downstream. There was the impressive sight of around one hundred or so waders birds. I'm pretty sure now that this is the first flight of our new friends for the winter months, rather than departing sun worshippers.

I was running towards the sun, and running out towards the Creek. I had something of a moment when Wrong 'Em Boyo from London Calling came through on the AirPods. I hit my rhythm and pounded on in time with the beats.

This was my second fastest time running the 9km route. I've no idea what my body was doing back in June 2017, or why it has taken over five years to come close to repeating this feat. But I'll take it, thank you very much, Strava.
#
I tried to crack on with the Colne Radio work throughout the breaks in the afternoon. But my attention was still focussed on Old Trafford and Surrey's follow on. I need silence in order to focus these days. I was determined to squeeze the last out of the summer days, watching County cricket whilst the season draws to a close.

I had the excitement of a native eBay bid on The Beat's Just Can't Stop It CD. It was priced ridiculously low with only one bid at five minutes to go. Usually I would schedule a snipe. But that's no fun. It's far more exciting going native and manually entering your bid as the clock counts down. To my surprise my bid of £3.19 wasn't bettered. And yes, I've already got it on vinyl and cassette.

This soon paid for itself. I sold a spare Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle for a fiver. Cash from Chaos, etc. It's a swindle. IT'S A SWINDLE.

Cricket loyalties were divided late afternoon. The England Vs Pakistan t20 was the choice for A; I wanted to continue watching Surrey fall to their first defeat of the season in the Championship. We can only have one Sky channel streaming with Now TV. I gave in and let A watch the hit 'n' giggle shit.

I listened instead to Nihal on 5Live. He had a fascinating interview with Brett and Richard from Suede. I've yet to hear the new album. R back in the Fair City has been raving about it. The interview went way beyond the usual band banalities. Nihal managed to open up Brett, no easy feat.

My mind was taken back to a different world, some thirty years ago. In answer to one of my questions, Brett came out with the reply that he "really enjoyed water sports." It passed right over me. Naive, Jase. Naive.

I finally managed to get some Colne Radio content out across all three platforms. Yep, I've been procrastinating. I think it was the challenge of coming up with a content calendar for the entire two week campaign. I'm taking it a day at a time for now.

The entry requirements for the Serpentine Swimming Club Christmas Day Peter Pan Cup dropped. Once again I'm set to miss out this year. One day I will make the News at Ten "And Finally" on Christmas Day. I ended Wednesday by binge watching the remainder of Obi Wan. Brilliant.
