I am looking at the
COVID transmission rates for Oakland County in Michigan and observe that the daily new cases in July 2022 were not as low as in July 2021 or 2020, and I don't know what to make of this. It could be that better data is being collected. It could also mean we are getting closer to a new normal. New cases will never be zero for long. It feels like most everyone has accepted where we at is the new normal except, although it also feels like for some people that will never happen. Technically, I think an epidemic is not considered over until the R(0) is consistently below 1. I also note that the vaccination rate has plateaued and is not really going to improve.
