- Done right, words set out in a sentence tell us something about a room of the world, and they sound the footfalls of the one that sought the room and walked in so as to write it, and the silence between the words leaves space for our own footfalls, our own words, if, done right, and if we follow.#
- Or we can linger at the outer gate, muttering the second and third-hand phrases that bored our grandparents early in the last century, or trapped and killed them at their leisure in a trench, or along some dark highway, or between the curtains of a hospital room, or under a hard hat or a bitter sun.#
